Rock wool (also called mineral wool or stone wool) is a versatile insulation material made from molten volcanic rock (usually basalt) spun into fibers. It's valued for its fire resistance, sound absorption, and thermal insulation.

Applications of Rock Wool:

 1. Building & Construction:

Wall insulation (external and internal)

Roof insulation (flat and pitched)

Floor insulation

Ceiling and partition walls (especially for soundproofing)

Loft/attic insulation

Facade insulation systems (EIFS)

2. Acoustic Insulation:

Used in soundproof rooms, cinemas, studios, and offices

Excellent for reducing noise transmission between floors and walls

3. Fire Protection:

Fire-rated walls, floors, and doors

Used as firestops and in fire barriers

Does not burn; resists temperatures > 1000°C

4. Industrial Applications:

Pipe insulation (especially for high-temp steam/hot water pipes)

Duct insulation in HVAC systems

Insulation of tanks, boilers, and ovens

Power plants and oil & gas facilities

5. Transportation:

Thermal and acoustic insulation in buses, ships, and trains

6. Sandwich Panels:

Used as core material in prefab panels for modular buildings

Key Features Behind These Applications:

High fire resistance

Excellent thermal insulation

Superior sound absorption

Water repellency + vapor permeability

Dimensional stability over time
